Sea & Shoreline’s founder, Jim Anderson, started his career cultivating lawn grasses of various species for his nursery operations. Jim ventured into seagrass when a local favorite fishing area was threatened with closure to boat traffic due to extensive propeller scarring. Rather than face restricted access,  he thought repairing seagrass was the more logical solution and began developing technologies to address seagrass restoration needs. His effort led him to Carter Henne, a fellow fisheries advocate who shared his conviction that restoration, not restriction, was the right path forward. Together, they co-founded Sea & Shoreline, combining Jim’s turf farming expertise with a shared mission to bring aquatic ecosystems back to life.

Since then, the company has not only successfully restored countless rivers, lakes, lagoons, and estuaries but also pioneered innovative technologies that help to ensure the long-term success of restoration projects.
